Council to provide cash boost for forest bike trails

MOURNE Mountain bike trails within Castlewellan and Rostrevor Forest Parks are to be subsidised by Down Council.

The council is to extend its Service Level Agreement with the Mourne Heritage Trust to provide for the inspection, maintenance and management of the trails, with overall costs of £55,488.

Newry and Mourne District Council are to contribute to 50 per cent of the costs.

The agreement was reached at a Down Council committee meeting on Monday evening.

The Mourne Mountain Bike Project is due for completion by early April, providing 41km of cross-country trails and 5km of downhill trails within the Mourne area.
