Comedy at the resort

16 July 2014

THIS weekend the annual Newcastle Summer Season programme presents a brand new comedy, Funny Bones – An Imbecile’s Guide to First Aid, by Tony Sutcliffe. This takes place at 8pm on Friday, with season favourites, The Illegals with Niamh Kavanagh, on stage the following evening.

Stand-up comedian Tony Sutcliffe is originally from Bradford and moved to Newcastle several years ago. Since then he has performing stand-up comedy alongside his other job as a first aid medic and trainer.

“My work as a medic puts me into all sorts of interesting situations from training people on first aid courses to large-scale pop concerts and sports events,” he said.

“Some of the incidents that occur behind the scenes are really hilarious, and the new comedy show combines some of these stories with an actual first aid training course — with the audience as participants.

“We’re also looking for humorous medical anecdotes from members of the public to use in the show, so if you have a medical story please let me know via the contact page of my website www.tonysutcliffe.co.uk — it might be the start of your comedy career.”

Bigger and better than ever, The Illegals. with special guest Niamh Kavanagh, make a welcome return to the Newcastle Summer Season with their ever-popular Common Thread show — the ultimate classic rock tribute to Fleetwood Mac and Eagles from one of the best live bands in the country.

Every year The Illegals delve deeper into the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac back-catalogues to keep their dynamic live show fresh but familiar to packed venues throughout Ireland.

A Common Thread sees the band belting out a superb set from the Big Two and ‘connected’ others from the West Coast sound.

Expect to hear classic tracks from Linda Rondstadt, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Petty and others as well as all the top favourites from Eagles and Fleetwood Mac: Hotel California, The Chain, Desperado, Dreams and many more.
