Come and join Killough beach clean

19 April 2017

THE Ulster Wildlife’s Living Seas Team is appealing for volunteers to join them in a clean-up along the shoreline at Killough harbour this Friday afternoon.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the initiative between 12.30pm and 2.30pm and help remove litter such as bottles, cans and plastic bags which have washed ashore, to improve the area for wildlife and people alike. Gloves and litter pickers will be provided.

Ulster Wildlife’s Living Seas Officer, Dave Wall, hopes local residents will come along and lend a hand.

“The tide of litter washing up on our shores is not just unsightly, but it can harm and even kill some of our best-loved marine wildlife who mistake it for food or get entangled in it,” he explained. “Worse still, marine plastics are not biodegradable and last for centuries in our oceans. We want people to come down to Killough harbour this Friday and take part in an event that will not only make the area look great for visitors, but will also help save wildlife for years to come.”

Anyone interested in taking part is asked to meet at the Quay Lane car park and to check the forecast on the day and dress suitably. Remember to wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and sturdy boots/wellies. This event is not suitable for U-16s.
