Colour Run is enjoyed by all

7 June 2017

WITH summer officially here, Murlough AC were really delighted to get involved with Tiny Life’s fantastic Colour Run in Wallace Park, Lisburn.

While the sun was definitely MIA for sometime throughout it, the damp weather definitely didn’t dampen spirits.

As the rain eased off and the sun came out, runners spent most of the race dashed in an a rainbow of coloured paint, pink, purple, blue and yellow looking every inch the part in their shades and headbands.

The paint stops ran dry at one point, as always, the fun loving Murlough crew decided the paint on the ground would suffice and they were spotted by many casually rolling around in it instead.

Maria’s daughter Rioghnach celebrated her 16th birthday in style by being carried over the line by the gang. Laughs aplenty.

Also on Saturday, The Lap of the lake, an event which does exactly as it says.

Hazel, Michelle, Nicola and Eamon powered round the lake. Michelle and Hazel worked together perfectly and Hazel in particular was delighted with her time of 17:56

A fantastic way to remind all of us that running is not just about PBs and marathon miles, but about fun, enjoyment, encouragement and in these particular events — about giving.

The Derry Walled City Marathon has been eagerly anticipated for months now. A first for Catriona Carr — welcome to the 26.2 club, Catriona.

With sun shining and supporters lining the streets, including Gerard and Carol with their ever encouraging cheers, the 10 strong Murlough gang set off on their merry way to take in the scenic route and give all they could to earn the amazing medal on offer in return for their efforts.

Michael Grant achieved a tidy PB and one member of Murlough AC finished top 10 overall, with a time of 2:46:37.

An achievement only a very small percentage of runners in the whole of the country can claim.

Siobhan Grant had the responsibility of guide running our good friend Tony Barclay around the course — initial reports are that Tony is still in one piece so job well done there Siobhan.

Jackie, Paula and honorary member Linda do these marathons as if they were five mile runs these days, a walk in the park for these ladies — well not quite, but practically.

The big read will be next week and all of us are looking forward to hearing how the rest of the team got on — and exactly who was it who scored a top 10 position.
