THE South Eastern Regional College’s Downpatrick campus hosted a recent seminar to showcase how local businesses can support schools to ignite interest in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Representatives from businesses were welcomed to the event by College principal and chief executive, Ken Webb.
The seminar was organised in conjunction with Go Catalyst and W5, attracting over 40 industry professionals and other external organisations.
Mr. Webb said the College creates opportunities to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities.
“Enabling young people to develop their creativity, problem-solving and employability skills widens their choices and supports the UK’s future competitiveness,” he said.
Mr. Webb also explained how businesses can increase their potential pool of skilled employees locally by engaging directly with students and encouraging them to build relationships with schools in their local community.
The recent seminar also provided an opportunity for delegates to network with a large range of schools and businesses involved in the delivery of STEM activities and gain an insight into the wide range of services provided by the South Eastern Regional College.
