CLUB Down presented the Down County Board with the magnificent sum of £126,000 before Down’s NFL game with Mayo in Páirc Esler on Saturday night.
The contribution represented the net contribution of Club Down members to the county in the current phase of Club Down. Club Down is now a very vibrant and progressive unit of the GAA in our county.
Its aims revolve around contributing financial support to Coiste Chontae An Dún with the aim of resourcing county teams towards the goal of All-Ireland success, supporting the development of the GAA throughout the county with particular assistance for the Schools’ Coaching Programme and assisting in the promotion of the GAA in Down.
Club Down also works closely with Down GAA’s core finance group and one of its areas of interest in 2013 will be the strengthening of links with the Schools’ Coaching Programme.
Club Down also holds an annual members night to show their appreciation to their loyal members. At this event the Spirit of Breen Morgan award is made. Last year’s winner was Kilcoo’s Conor Laverty.
At present, there are over 400 members across the three membership categories. These are tailored packages which include basic, partner and sponsor options.
