HEALTH Minister Edwin Poots has formally opened the new Health Care Village in Clough.

The Health Village accommodates a pharmacy, a GP surgery, opticians, physiotherapy and podiatry units as well as a range of health and community services including health visiting, district nursing, diabetic specialist nursing and GP outreach in dermatology.

Mr. Poots said he believed the “wonderful facility” would bring real benefits to the people of Clough and its surrounding areas.

“My aim, which has been reinforced by the Transforming Your Care report, is that the services provided by Health and Social Care are fit for purpose to meet the needs of patients, clients and local communities,” he said.

“This means more care provided outside hospitals and in the community, closer to peoples’ homes.

“This will help people live independently for as long as possible and reduce avoidable hospital admissions.

“The Health Village is a modern facility that is capable of delivering 21st century health and social care and is a perfect example of this model of care.”

A number of special clinics are now being held in the new health

centre including ante-natal, diabetes, childhood vaccinations and baby clinic, minor surgery, smoking cessation, cervical smear, anticoagulation monitoring, family planning clinic, travel vaccines and phlebotomy.

The new Clough Health Village will continue to operate alongside the practice’s clinic in Dundrum and patients who are already registered in Dundrum do not need to register again in Clough.

Doctors across both practices include Dr. Alex Greer, Dr. Alison Smith, Dr. John Martin, Dr. Edel Miskelly and Dr. Olwyn Hilliard.

Consultation times in Dundrum are from 9am-11.30am and 2.30pm-4.30pm from Monday to Friday, except Thursday afternoons, while consultation times in Clough will be from 9am-11.30am and from 3pm-5pm from Monday to Friday.
