Classic and sports car show gearing up for 21st birthday

14 January 2015

ALL roads lead to Newcastle’s Slieve Donard Hotel at the end of the month for the annual Vintage, Classic and Sports Car Show which is celebrating its 21st birthday.

The star of the unique indoor show, run by local car enthusiasts and expected to attract more than 3,000 visitors, is a fully restored 90-year-old Rolls Royce Silver Ghost.

Over the years, the show has raised almost £150,000 for local charities with proceeds from this year’s event going to Cancer Research UK.

Alongside the Rolls Royce will be 40 other collectors’ cars spanning every decade back to the 1920s. Among the attractions is a collection of every type of Morris Minor ever produced, from the traditional family saloon to a rather unusual pick-up truck.

Those keen on cars with perhaps a little more prestige will enjoy the classic Ferrari, Mercedes and Jaguar. Admission is £5 for adults and £2 for children.

The show runs from Friday, January 30, to Sunday, February 1. Friday and Saturday opening times are 2pm to 10pm and 10am to 10pm respectively. The show is open on Sunday from 10am until 4pm.
