Christmas to arrive with day-long fayre in Saul

28 November 2012

CHRISTMAS festivities will get off to an early start in Saul on Saturday with an all-day fayre boasting dozens of crafts stalls, a winter barbecue and an opportunity for children to visit Santa in his very own holiday grotto.

The Christmas fayre is the first organised by St. Patrick’s Primary School’s Parents Teachers and Friends Association as a celebration of the approaching festive season. It will be held in the school from 11am-4pm.

The PTFA, in partnership with Paddy’s Market, is delighted to promise at least 26 craft stalls featuring a massive variety of gifts ideas, including locally-made jewellery, a selection of top quality handmade arts and crafts and food as well as a tombola stall.

There will also be a winter barbecue with burgers and hot dogs to tempt visitors as well as mulled wine, mince pies, teas and coffees and a dedicated children’s tuck shop promising a variety of affordable children’s treats.

The school’s recently formed council will also man its own second-hand book stall, giving keen young readers the opportunity to pick up a readable bargain without breaking the bank.

Organisers hope the fayre, while being an enjoyable outing for all the family, will also give people the opportunity to pick up some original Christmas presents before the December rush really begins.

The highlight for the children will of course be a visit to Santa in his own Saul grotto. Santa is set to arrive at the school at 12.30pm and is looking forward to listening to children’s wishlists while promising a little treat for his young visitors.

There will also be a cinema room for children who may prefer to watch a festive film while mum or dad take in the craft fair.

St. Patrick’s Primary School principal, Mr. Mark McGrath, said he hoped people from across the area will come along to the fayre, which he said looked set to be a big event.

He said he was delighted with the number of stalls that would be set up in the school hall on the day.

“We are very much looking forward to opening up the school to everybody for the day and hope families will come along and enjoy everything that is on offer,” he said.

“Everybody is working hard to make this an enjoyable event for all with the large craft fair, Santa’s grotto, barbecue, mulled wine and mince pies helping to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.”
