Chris Kavanagh pays tribute to Luke Kelly in Downpatrick show

14 November 2018

THE unmistakable sound of Irish folk legend Luke Kelly of the Dubliners will be relived at Down Arts Centre with a special concert on Friday evening.

Dublin singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Chris Kavanagh has been performing his tribute show, The Legend of Luke Kelly, for the last 16 years to rave reviews.

It was said that the whole of Ireland grieved the early death of Dubliner legend Luke Kelly on January, 24, 1984.

Kelly was regarded as the greatest folk artist of the 20th century whose music is thought to be one of Ireland’s cultural treasures.

Kavanagh has amazed audiences with his powerful, sell-out performances in prominent venues with the regular attendance of Luke Kelly’s family.

Having toured with the show in England, Switzerland, Germany and Australia, Chris toured with The Dubliners in Germany in 2011 and made a guest appearance on their 50th anniversary concert DVD.

Critics have said that when Kavanagh performs, his talent captures the depth and passion of the great man he is so heavily influenced by.

He was born and raised on Irish music and has been singing Irish folk songs since he was three years old.

Kavanagh learned to play the piano by ear when he was five years old and his passion for Luke Kelly’s music led him to learn to play the 5-string long neck banjo in 2001.

There are limited tickets remaining for the performance so early booking is recommended.

The show starts at 8pm with bar facilities from 7pm.

Tickets are priced at £16 / £14 concession and can be booked at Down Arts Centre Box Office on 028 4461 0747.
