Charity makes a double award

THE William Keown Trust has made two presentations.

A cheque for £10,000 was presented to Professor David Beverland from Musgrave Park Hospital, while Trust Board chairman, David Hanna, was presented with a painting of Carlingford Lough to mark his 10 years’ service.

Both presentations were made at the recent meeting of the William Keown’s Trust Board of Directors.

Professor Beverland, who is a leading orthopaedic surgeon at Musgrave Park, was welcomed to the Trust Directors meeting by the organisation’s chairman Philip Beattie.

Mr. Beattie said the Belfast Hospital was known as a “centre of excellence” for orthopaedic procedures and that the Trust Board was happy to assist the surgical team by making a presentation of £10,000 which was presented by treasurer, Olive Fulton.

Mr. Beverland, who referred to the Trust’s many years of financial support to orthopaedic research, gave a short talk on hip, knee and joint replacements.

He brought with him specimens of the various joints to underpin the orthopaedic procedures which are carried out at Musgrave Park on many patients from across the Province.

Mr. Hanna was presented with his painting by Mr. Trevor Taylor FRCS, the William Keown Trust’s deputy president.

The Trust Board chairman’s work was outlined by Mr. Beattie who highlighted his “years of leadership” and commitment and involvement with good causes.

In a short address, Mr. Hanna reflected on the individuals, families and the community who have been “helped for good” over three decades, largely because of the Trust founder’s vision of commitment to inspiring hope, aspiration and innovation towards an accessible, caring and inclusive society for everyone.

Mr. Hanna said the painting would have pride of place in his home and he thanked his fellow Directors for their generosity.
