Chairman praises group for work to improve Crossgar

10 February 2016

PAUL Teggart has been re-elected chairman of the Crossgar Community Association.

His appointment was confirmed at the community group’s annual meeting held in the village last week when he thanked the outgoing committee for its hard work and many achievements over the previous 12 months.

The annual meeting also marked the retirement of the group’s treasurer, Eddie Craig, who was thanked for his numerous contributions to the Crossgar community over four decades.

Mr Teggart, who is looking forward to another term at the helm, thanked Newry, Mourne and Down Council’s Rowallane district electoral area co-ordinator, Ellen Brennan, for her work. He also singled out the ongoing advice and support provided to the group by Lise Curran from the Co. Down Rural Community Network.

It was agreed at last week’s meeting to retain last year’s committee with the addition of

several new members including Johnny Miskelly, Breige McGonagle, Stephen Fitzsimons and Sean Carville.

Ted Ellison remains as the group’s vice-chairman, and Kate Gormley continues as secretary with the assistance of Mark Withers. Claire Keenan will take over the role of treasurer, with Sean Carville as her assistant.

The next meeting of the Crossgar group is scheduled to be held on Thursday, March 3, at 7.30pm at the Downpatrick Street community centre, with an invitation extended to new members who may wish to attend.

The group also has its own Facebook page ‘Crossgar Area Community Association’ which residents can use to get in touch and raise issues of concern.
