Castlewellan company picks up major green energy award

A CASTLEWELLAN firm has won a prestigious green energy award.

Alternative Heat scooped the best community project prize at the recent Action Renewables Awards ceremony organised in conjunction with Tughans and Travelwise NI.

The Castlewellan firm won its award for its work on the Skainos project, a flagship redevelopment scheme situated in East Belfast.

The project is designed to provide community facilities and features retail and commercial outlets, the East Belfast Mission, youth and family services counselling as well as a community hall.

The project includes over 160m2 of Kingspan solar thermal tube panels and Solar PV. There is also a 300kw biomass communal boiler running on wood pellets to heat the individual buildings. The overall CO2 reduction is estimated around 80,000kgs.
