Castle Ward to host annual walk in aid of NI Hospice

20 February 2013

THE annual walk at Castleward near Strangford in aid of the Northern Ireland Hospice takes place on April 14.

Now in its 33rd year, the event attracts hundreds of local families, dog walkers and athletes as they take in the sights of the stunning National Trust estate whilst raising funds for the local charity.

Last year, thanks to the dedicated support and participation of local people, the Hospice walk raised over £3,000, with the money used to provide care for local adults, children and young people living across Northern Ireland with life-limiting illnesses.

Plans are well underway for this year’s walk at Castleward which is being sponsored by Creightons of Finaghy and Kilwaughter Chemical Company Ltd.

The five-mile walk starts at 3pm and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Local celebrities will be also amongst those walking to raise money for Northern Ireland Hospice.

Olivia Nash, Northern Ireland Hospice vice-president, is hoping local people will lace up their walking shoes and put their best forward.

“Get your friends and family involved and really make a difference to local adults, children and young people,” said Olivia. “There will be a few famous faces joining in too so there’s no excuse not to come down. Walk with us and have some craic.”
