Carryduff’s Guinness is good for you

Carryduff’s Guinness is good for you

12 April 2017

FRIDAY night’s clash was a feisty affair and both teams competed with vigour until the final whistle.

Bredagh got off to a good start with points from Joe Shields from the throw–in and a converted Donal Hughes free in the third minute. Carryduff had a few wides before James Guinnness’ converted free eight minutes in settled them into the game.

Ronan Beatty goaled for the home side to press their advantage, but points from Conor Francis and Hughes levelled the affair and injected some enthusiasm into both sets of supporters.

Bredagh tagged on further points from Emmett Costello and Alan Davisdson before Carryduff replied with points from Ronan Beatty and James Guinness. Davidson levelled the game with a further point in the 18th minute.

A good final ten minutes in the first half saw Carryduff claim further points from Ronan Beatty and a brace from James Guinness whilst holding Bredagh to a single score, leaving the home side with a two point advantage at the break. Carryduff 1-7 Bredagh 0-8.

Bredagh opened the second half strongly with two converted frees from Donal Hughes to bring matters level again.

Beatty struck for his second goal in the 38th minute, a score that was to remain pivotal as Carryduff failed to register a further score from 20 minutes of play.

Meanwhile, an industrious Bredagh worked hard to gain and retain possession. They shot a number of wides before Hughes, Shields and Kealan Devlin registered points for the visitors to level the game again.

Those earlier wides and two further wides were to prove costly for a determined Bredagh outfit as Carryduff rallied for the latter stages of the game and battled for every ball when it mattered most.

An inspirational save from ‘keeper Mark Hynds to deny Bredagh a victory provided inspiration for Carryduff in the dying minutes of the game.

Looking dangerous in attack, Carryduff were awarded two further frees in the final few minutes of play — Guinness obligingly converted both to give Carryduff a two point victory and the first two league points of this campaign.
