Cadets’ fun-filled trip to Liverpool

6 September 2017

TEENAGE army cadets from East Down have been answering the call of the wild this summer, taking part in an adventure-filled camp in Liverpool.

While many of their schoolmates were catching up on their rest or marking time on social media, these energetic Army Cadets were making their mark with an activity programme packed with sport and outdoor pursuits.

Colonel Keith Dowell, Commandant of 2nd (Northern Ireland) Army Cadet Force, said teenagers often get a bad press with people dismissing them as couch potatoes with few interests outside their smartphones, computers or social circle.

“In our experience – and as these great kids from Downpatrick, Killyleagh, Ballynahinch and Ballygowan demonstrate — nothing could be further from the truth.

“Given the opportunity to get out and do something special, they are more than up for the challenge, and annual camp is all about providing challenge.
