Bus crash is probed

2 October 2013

TRANSLINK is working with police to investigate how a bus carrying a group of wedding guests crashed near Clough on Saturday.

The Ulsterbus veered off the road crashing into an electricity pole and a road sign near the Clough roundabout shortly before 11am.

No other vehicle was involved.

The driver sustained injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening, and was taken to hospital by an ambulance called to the scene. Police have said no-one else was injured.

It is understood the privately hired coach had been transporting wedding guests from a meeting point at the Slieve Donard Hotel on to Belfast.

Part of the road between Newcastle and Belfast was closed until 5pm and Ulsterbus services between Newcastle and Belfast were also diverted between Drumaness and Clough.

A Translink spokeswoman said: "There were 30 passengers on board the vehicle at the time.

"We are currently working with the PSNI to investigate the circumstances of the incident.”

A police spokesman said: Anyone who witnessed this road traffic collision, or knows anything about it, is asked to contact Downpatrick police station on 0845 600 8000."
