Brown pipped at the post by Colin McGrath

3 March 2017

COLIN McGrath, who was first elected for the nationalist party last May, held off a strong challenge from the Alliance candidate, Patrick Brown.

Brown more than doubled his vote and was very pleased with his showing in only his second Assembly election.

McGrath's election is some consolation for the SDLP after a poor poll in South Down where their share of the vote ped by 6.27%. In the last two Assembly elections the SDLP's percentage share has now dropped by a total of 10.6%.
