Brothers conquer mountain biking

16 November 2016

TWO Derryboy brothers are making great strides in the world of mountain biking.

Ten year-old Reuben Maitland and his seven year-old brother, Elliot, have completed a hugely successful season which has brought them Irish and Ulster titles.

Reuben started 2016 in fantastic fashion by winning the U-10 Spring League, which was held over a number of weeks at Ormeau Park, Belfast.

He also won the Ulster XC Mountain Bike League and completed a hat-trick of titles when he secured the NPS XC League, which is raced on both sides of the border.

Reuben ended the season undefeated and is preparing to make the move into the U-12 category in 2017.

Meanwhile, younger brother Elliot won the Irish NPS XC U-8 League and also finished a highly creditable third in the Ulster XC Mountain Bike League.

The equally talented Elliot is now gearing up for the move into the U-10 age bracket in 2017.

The brothers are pupils at Derryboy Primary School and members of Killinchy Cycling Club.
