REVENGE is a dish best served cold in Clonduff on a wintry Sunday afternoon.
Bryansford, well beaten in last year’s decider by the same opposition at the same venue, turned the tables on their great rivals when they were crowned county champions.
It’s now bring on Ulster.
Mayobridge just couldn’t live with the power and style of David McKibben, the marksmanship of Adam Magorrian and the free-running of Danny Savage as the ‘Ford recorded a convincing win.
Mayobridge settled the better and two converted frees from Corey Quinn had them clear after five minutes, but that was as good as it got for the holders.
Bryansford tightened things up at the back and with McKibben and the impressive Aiden McCartan running the show from midfield, scores started to flow.
A point from McKibben was quickly followed by a goal from Magorrian and Bryansford were well and truly on the way.
Their miserly defensive sextet of Aaron McDonald, Mark Harbinson, Ryan McDonald, Tomas McInerney, Rory Wells and Luke Kelly, who gave absolutely nothing away, provided the springboard for McKibben and McCartan to rule the roost.
Points flowed from Savage (2) and Conor Devlin before Kevin McClorey shot wide from the penalty spot for Mayobridge after Jamie Barr had been fouled.
Had McClorey converted the penalty there would have been only three points between the sides, but Mayobridge were to pay dearly as Magorrian went straight up field and lofted his side into a 1-6 to 0-2 lead as the first half drew to a close.
Quinn did manage a late point for Mayobridge as his side went in sat the break trailing by six points.
Things went from bad to worse for Mayobridge after the break as the game had barely started when Magorrian had recorded his second goal of the game.
It was all Bryansford now and unanswered points from Savage, Harbinson and McKibben gave the East Down side a 2-9 to 0-3 lead after 34 minutes.
McClorey and McKibben, a monster of a score, knocked over points before Savage, who looks the real deal, gave Bryansford a 2-11 to 0-4 lead after 40 minutes.
Quinn kept Mayobridge ticking over with a well taken goal, but Bryansford responded with points from Chris Clarke (2), Magorrian, Savage, McInerney and Devlin to run out emphatic winners.
