SAINTFIELD man Brian Johnston has raised £500 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association with some unique Christmas crafting.
After making a reindeer from logs, for his grandchildren, word got around about Brian’s skills and he soon started taking orders.
It was a visit to the north coast early last November that gave Brian the idea. He spotted a reindeer made from logs in a shop window and his grandchildren who were with him suggested he could make them one for Christmas.
By his own admission he is no DIY expert but as orders started coming in Brian’s garage began to look more like a carpenter’s workshop.
He had by this time decided to donate the proceeds to Motor Neurone Disease.
As a result of this venture, Brian last week presented a cheque for £500 to Marie Holmes, secretary of Motor Neurone Disease Northern Ireland.
He would like to thank all those who purchased the reindeer to make this possible.
He said: “Although, over the years Marie Curie Cancer Care has been my main fund raising charity, I have a good friend who lost his wife to Motor Neurone Disease almost three years ago, and this is the reason I have chosen that charity this time.”
