A SENIOR manager at the Millbrook Lodge Hotel in Ballynahinch has been shortlisted for a major hospitality award.

Breandán Kerr has made it through to the final of the Operations Manager of the Year category in the Institute of Hospitality NI’s gala awards ceremony which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belfast on September 4.

The 54 year-old has been working at the Millbrook Lodge as banqueting and events manager for the last two years.

He started his career as a young man working in the family pub in Belfast at the weekends while at school. Mr Kerr then joined the business and later became a partner before taking over the business for 15 years after his father’s death.

He also worked in a number of management positions in Belfast hotels before he came to the Millbrook Lodge.

The father of two from west Belfast has also studied several hospitality courses in the last eight years, gaining a BA in Professional Development in Management and Leadership from the University of Dundee and completing the Level 7 Certificate and Diploma from the Institute of Leadership and Management at Belfast Business School. He intends to start a Masters degree in Human Resources in the coming academic year.
