THE Trampoline Network had their most successful haul of medals last weekend at the Northern Ireland Championships held at Ards Leisure Centre.

The club entered six competitors and came away with a medals haul which included two golds, two silvers and one bronze in the different age groups.

The club competed for the first time in the intermediate section of the competition with Erin McGlinchey (U-15 girls) and Kelly Fitzsimons (U-19 girls) both taking silver medals. Kelly scored 43.3 and Erin 43.1. This was the girls’ second time in the national finals.

In the novice section competing in their first national championships were Daniel McClean (U-15 boys), Eoin McNally (U-13 boys) and Anna Boe (U-13 girls).

Daniel and Eoin both won gold medals with scores of 42.1 and 45.2 respectively. Anna took the bronze with a score of 45.7 Anna’s result was especially good as she competed in the largest group in the competition. Rebekah Forson also competed in the U-15 girls’ novice and came 8th with 41.9.

Two of the clubs competitors were also chosen for the Northern Ireland U-13 talent squad and had their first squad training session after the competition.

Eoin and Anna joined 34 other hopefuls training with Northern Ireland’s top coaches. From this pool it is hoped that the future Northern Ireland’s junior and senior squads will emerge.

The club were very pleased with five medals from six competitors. Although one of the smallest clubs in Northern Ireland they are punching above their weight in the medal table.

Club coach Graham Erskine said: “The club is going from strength to strength and has had great success at novice level in the first year and now success in the intermediate section.

“Next year we hope to progress to advanced level and the club aims to produce elite trampolinists after that.”

The club trains at Lough Moss Leisure Centre, Carryduff, Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Lisburn, and Ballymote Well-being Centre Downpatrick. Contact the club on 07968 702535.
