BALLYNAHINCH recovered from their recent All-Ireland League defeats to run in eight unanswered tries against Ards in the Ulster Senior League at Ballymacarn Park.

Neil Faloon opened the scoring for the home side in the fourth minute after he picked up a loose ball on half way to race clear and set down under the posts. Ritchie Lobb added the extras to take the home side seven points clear.

Ards battled back into the contest during the next ten minutes and Cox had a shot at goal in the 19th minute, but his effort drifted wide.

The second ‘Hinch try came in the 22nd minute and it started with the impressive young loose head, Kelvin Hamilton, on the charge

He made good ground into the Ards half, then fed to Andrew Harper in support.

The ‘Hinch hooker took play forward before passing outside to flanker Jordan McMullan who turn found Neil Faloon on his outside shoulder and he ran in to claim his second try of the afternoon. Lobb added the extras from the half way line.

‘Hinch raced in their third try five minutes later and again it was young Hamilton that started the attack by setting up good second phase possession. The quick ball was flashed wide where Aaron Ferris made good ground down the left wing, then put full back David Nicholson clear to score.

Lobb added the conversion to make it 21-0.

The bonus point came in the 32nd minute when centre William Richards finished off a sweeping back line move to cross for the fourth try. Lobb was on target with the conversion to complete the first half scoring.

Ross Adair opened the scoring for the ‘Hinch in the second half when he battled hard to race clear and dived in at the right hand corner. Lobb hit the upright with his conversion attempt from the touchline.

A sweeping back line move in the 55th minute created room for Matthew Arneill to show his pace and he crossed in the left hand corner for the sixth try which went unconverted.

Try number seven came in the 64th minute when a loose ball was gathered by Josh Donaldson and he drove for the line. The visitors’ defence managed to halt his progress, but Jordan McMullan was on hand to pick up and battle his way over. Lobb converted to make it 45-0

The final score came in the 78th minute shortly after Ards centre Scott Young intercepted a ‘Hinch pass five metres form the Ards line and sprinted clear. David Nicholson and Aaron Cairns gave chase and hunted Young down as he entered the Hinch 22.

Nicholson reacted quickly to gather the loose ball and set off on a counter attack.

Michael Graham and Ross Adair combined well to make good ground down the right wing, then Cairns fired the ball wide, where the Hinch had men over, and Ritchie Lobb cantered in to dot down under the posts. He then converted to complete the scoring.
