Ballynahinch man Foster faces top international opposition

25 January 2012

DOTING Ballynahinch dad, David Foster, is ready to build on his dramatic Fright Night victory last October when he returns to action at the Hilton Hotel on Friday night.

The kickboxing father of five girls overcame David Corigliano last Halloween, but had to drag himself off the canvas twice in the first round to record his win.

Foster, who has also become an Prokick instructor in his hometown, recorded a points victory over Corigliano after three breathtaking rounds. His fitness on that occasion was a key-factor, but Foster said he had to battle with pre-fight nerves before settling and focussing on the task at hand.

This time around, Foster will not need excuses. He will face international opposition in Belfast, sharing an attractive fight card with Darren McMullan, Gary Fullerton, Karl McBlain, Johnny Smith, Peter Rusk and heavyweight Paul Best.

Former Braniel FC footballer, Foster, 33, said: “It was great to come out of my last fight with a win, but I really had to earn it after a bad start. I don’t want a repeat of that this time around.

“I feel more prepared and I have put a lot of training in over Christmas and New Year, so there will be no excuses.”

Foster’s wife, Joanne, and five daughters Kirsty, Lucy, Kari, Jodi and baby Lily, will all be in attendance at his fight, a stepping stone toward an a possible Irish title tilt later this year.

He added: “I have an eye on fighting for the Irish title and that would be a great achievement to have so early in my fight career. I am not in any rush though. I have to get it right in my next fight before I can think about the next step.”

Davy is the instructor of the ProKick Ballynahinch Club that has just reopened after being closed for the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays.

His club runs in St. Patrick’s Parish Centre every Friday at 7pm and all are welcome.
