29 May 2013

A SAINTFIELD nurse has been presented with a prestigious award by the Royal College of Nursing.

Robert Moore, who works for the South Eastern Trust, has been recognised for his “exceptional contribution” to health and safety issues across the UK.

A former vice-chairman of the RCN Northern Ireland Board, Robert has been presented with the Award of Merit — the highest honour the RCN can bestow for service to members. The presentation was made at the organisation’s annual congress which took place recently in Liverpool.

The Saintfield nurse was nominated for the accolade by fellow RCN representatives. The organisation’s director, Janice Smyth, said over the past eight years, Robert has made a significant and valuable contribution to the work of the RCN.

She said Robert has promoted the health and safety of members and supported and represented members at a branch level.

Janice added: “Robert’s work on the RCN Northern Ireland Board has been characterised by his integrity, dignity and his capacity to balance a demanding role with his RCN commitments. He is a worthy recipient of this special award.”

A lead nurse with the South Eastern Trust, the Saintfield man said he was “overwhelmed” at receiving the RCN award.

He added: “It is recognition of the role that health and safety representatives can play by working in partnership to keep both patients and staff safe.

“I am grateful to those who nominated me and to the RCN for all the learning, development and support provided by the College, both locally and nationally.”
