Appeal to find ‘irreplaceable’ mobile phone

Appeal to find ‘irreplaceable’ mobile phone

12 August 2015

A DEVASTATED Killough couple have issued a heartfelt appeal for the return of hundreds of photographs of their baby daughter.

The irreplaceable photos of 11-month Bláithín Cosgrove were on her father’s mobile telephone which was lost after it was inadvertently left on top of the family car when her parents set off for a trip to Belfast last Saturday.

When Kevin and his partner Sarah arrived with their daughter in the city, they could not find the mobile and initially thought they had left it at home or their daughter had put it somewhere in the house after playing with it.

A search of the family’s Castle Court home upon their return to the village drew a blank and the couple suddenly realised the phone had been left on top of the car as they loaded it up before they drove off.

Kevin contacted staff at the O2 shop in Downpatrick for help and a computer search using the internet discovered the phone had emitted a signal in the Seaforde area several hours after they had set off for Belfast.

The Killough couple are unsure if the telephone was used by someone in the village or was in a car driving through Seaforde. They are hoping whoever has the Sony Xperia — housed in a black flip-up wallet— will return it.

The couple were planning to transfer the photos from the mobile to their laptop just days before it was lost.

“The photos are simply irreplaceable,” said a dejected Sarah. “They include all the photos we have taken of Bláithín over the past number of months including her recent trip to New York to see her grandparents. We have also lost photos of our daughter with her great grandparents who live in Donegal.”

Sarah, who left the phone on top of her husband’s car, said the photos represent “precious memories” and hopes whoever has the mobile will return it.

“The photos are of our daughter’s formative months and really special to us. I placed the phone on top of the car as we loaded up to go Belfast last Saturday and off we went without it. We just hope we can get it back.”

Kevin and his partner believe whoever has the missing mobile probably found it and do not suspect it came into their possession in an underhand way.

“We believe someone has found the phone and put in their car. The telephone is locked so it is no good to anyone, but it is precious to us as it contains photos of our daughter. We are desperate to get it back.

“We are appealing to whoever has found the mobile to please return it. When we were told the phone had been traced to Seaforde we went to the village and knocked on many doors but this drew a blank. We want to get the photos back as they are of great sentimental value.”

Kevin, who works as a taxi driver, has returned many items left by customers in his vehicle including mobile phones. He now hopes his acts of kindness will be repaid by whoever has his mobile.

“While the last trace of the phone was in Seaforde it may have been in someone’s car driving through the village or maybe it emitted a signal the battery went dead. We just don’t know, but hope our appeal will be successful and that whoever has the phone will return it,” he said.

Kevin added: “Sarah and I genuinely believe that whoever has the phone came across it innocently. We have asked all the business owners in Killough if they know anything and this has drawn a blank. We really hope our appeal is successful.

“We just want the photos of our precious daughter. We hope someone out there will read this article and return the phone to us. The photos are something money can’t buy and we so much want them back.”
