Another financial boost for fundraising group

Another financial boost for fundraising group

21 May 2014

THE Donard Fundraising Group has received a major boost from the Fresh Foods store in Castlewellan.

The owners, management, staff and customers have raised just over £741 for the local group, and the money will be to fund a number of groups, including Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Donard group’s Paul Madden said the organisation is “overwhelmed” by the generosity of the local store and its customers during a recent collection.

“We are genuinely staggered and humbled by the donations we received, which not only came from the store’s customers and staff, but from all corners of Co. Down and beyond,” he continued.

“Some customers donated money on the way into the store and again on the way out. Acts like this are testament to the truly decent and kind-hearted general public within our local communities.”

Mr. Madden said some of the proceeds from the Castlewellan collection will be used to help Marie Curie Cancer Care provide additional palliative nursing care hours for anyone in the local area who suffers from cancer or a terminal illness.

He said the money will also be used to assist the Mind Your Mate & Yourself (MYMY) organisation, and the Donard Group’s initiative to fundraise and provide publicly accessible lifesaving heart defibrillators for local towns and villages.

“We are in the final stages of preparing our second annual innovative ‘power of an hour’ fundraising concept and are working hard to make the event as enjoyable as last year’s,” added Mr. Madden.

Paula McKibbin, who recently joined the Donard Group as a volunteer and who is fundraising to help the local (MYMY) organisation, said she was delighted to be involved in the recent collection at the Fresh Foods Store in Castlewellan.
