THE South Eastern Regional College has been criticised for axing a part-time beauty course at its Downpatrick campus.

Falling numbers are being blamed on the decision to end the first year Level III beauty course, and students who previously studied in Downpatrick have been told the course is now available in Lisburn.

A College spokeswoman said the organisation is committed to providing access to further and higher education across Co. Down.

She said as part of this commitment, the College's Downpatrick campus offers a range of part-time courses which have been heavily promoted between May and September.

But she explained only those courses which have sufficient enrolments can run to ensure that the College, as a public service, is operating efficiently and effectively."

"Customers have been offered the opportunity to attend the same course at the Lisburn campus. Whilst we understand that these circumstances may be disappointing, the College must remain focused on delivering an efficient public service," the spokeswoman added.
