Allen is just out of this world

COMBER man Allen Farr has seen his latest work published in stellar company.

His science-fiction story, A Game of Death, appears in an anthology released by Fantastic Books Publishing as part of their Elite project. Allen’s work is part of Elite: Tales from the Frontier, which is one of five authorised books-of-the-game produced by Fantastic Books to accompany the award winning space trading game, Elite: Dangerous.

Since its release Elite: Tales from the Frontier has been climbing the fiction charts and gathering a crop of reviews praising it as “scintillating”, “hilariously, side-splittingly funny” and “worthy of the original Star Wars”.

Of Allen’s story, one reviewer called it “a clever and satisfyingly rounded tale”.

“The Elite universe is set within the real one,” explained Fantastic Books CEO Dan Grubb. “We don’t yet wander freely about the stars, but Elite is showing us how it will work once we have the technology. This is the science of the future.”

In A Game of Death, Allen cleverly weaves this sense of future exploration through computer gaming into his story. His hero, Oliver, is an avid gamer when not tending to his interstellar scrap business.

The Elite game was huge in the 1980s and December saw its long-awaited re-launch as Elite: Dangerous.

Allen will be appearing next year at the sci-fi convention, Fantasticon 2015.
