Alanna’s hair cut is thank you to Trust

AN Annacloy teenager who nearly lost her life in an accident 18 months ago, has cut off her ponytail to demonstrate her gratitude to everyone who helped her.

Alanna Casement was airlifted to hospital in July 2014 after suffering severe injuries in a bicycle accident in Castlewellan Forest Park.

Her life was saved by the emergency services including a PSNI helicopter that rushed her to the Royal Hospital in just nine minutes where surgeons spent four and a half hours stabilising her.

Following a three week stay in hospital, Alanna was able to return home where her

recovery continues.

Because of her own experience, she decided to do something for charity that would be meaningful to her and to do good for someone else after all the support she received.

Having painstakingly grown her hair for six years, she decided to forego her lock for the Little Princess Trust, which make wigs for children who are losing their hair for many reasons including medical treatment.

A student at Assumption Grammar School, Alanna’s class had also chosen the Trust for their annual Christmas fundraising appeal and Alanna had 10 inches of her hair cut off in front of her classmates, raising £425.70 for the Trust.
