A LOCAL primary school is celebrating after scooping a prestigious award.

Academy Primary and Nursery School ion Saintfield received the award for best pastoral care in a primary school at the Families First Awards ceremony at Titanic, Belfast, recently.

Mr Richard Fegan, principal, explained that the school was nominated for the award by parents..

He said: “I am so proud of every pupil and staff member. The pastoral care in our school was deemed outstanding in our last school inspection by the Education and Training Inspectorate and this award signifies that standards remain high.

“If we could have chosen an award to win, it would be this one, especially after the last two years when the priority had to be the happiness and well- being of our pupils.”

Mr Fegan added: “Only when our pupils feel safe, happy and secure do they get the most from their education.”
