Youth rangers help out at Castlewellan cycle tracks

27 August 2014

THE Mourne Youth Rangers travelled to Castlewellan Forest Park last week to help with maintenance on the popular mountain bike trails.

Breaking into three teams, the rangers widened a section of a fast flowing trail, placed large rocks on a newly created bank to create support and delivered a supply of stones for surfacing the bike track.

The young people also had the chance to experience the trails and a skills session from local bike company, Mourne Bikes. Eoin, drilled core elements of mountain biking including gearing, braking, cornering and seating position.

Parents gathered late in the afternoon for a slideshow of each week’s activities and to watch each young person being presented their certificate of attendance, John Muir Award.
