A DOWNPATRICK father who died while on holiday in Gran Canaria is believed to have fallen in an accident.
The body of Dean Dobbin (33) was found in an apartment building in the popular resort of Puerto Rico on Monday of last week.
A postmortem examination concluded that Mr Dobbin fell inside the room and suffered a severe blow to the head.
According to local news outlet La Provincia, police believe no other person was involved in his death.
Mr Dobbin’s body was found by a cleaner from the tourist apartments at 12.15pm last week.
It has also been reported that a friend who was with the local man on his holiday, was also in the apartment “semi-conscious and completely disoriented”.
The newspaper reported that the friend told the Civil Guard that they had been celebrating St Patrick’s Day.
The Republic of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs is understood to have provided consular assistance to Mr Dobbin’s family, while the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust is assisting with the return of his body.
Mr Dobbin’s brother David posted an emotional tribute on Facebook.
“My bro, my everything,” he wrote. “Most beautiful heart you will ever have met.”
A death notice described Mr Dobbin as a “loving father to Aodhan and dearly beloved son of David and Annemarie. Much loved brother of Mark and David. Dear brother-in-law, uncle and nephew.”
Funeral details have yet to be announced.
