Top dancer Anna qualifies for World Championships

2 March 2022

LOCAL Irish dancers have proven themselves to be a step above the rest once again.

Members of the Crossgar-based Scoil Rince an Chroí dance school enjoyed plenty of success at the Kelly Hendry Feis in Newcastle upon Tyne and the Mid-Ulster Grades Feis in Dungannon.

Thirty-five dancers from the school took to the stage at both locations with dancers excelling in both the grades system and championships.

The school returned home with 28 first places, 56 top five places and a host of trophies and sashes.

The school’s success comes of the back of a very successful Ulster Championships in Ballybofey in October.

Anna McGlew qualified for the World Championships to be held in Belfast at Easter and Sean Gordon achieved fifth place, reaching a podium place at his first Ulsters, having only started to compete four months prior.

Teacher Bríd McKinney said: “Whilst acknowledging the various pandemic-related challenges brought to us in 2021 and early this year, the great class spirit and support for each other helped drive our various success both last year and this year to date.”

Co-teacher Maura Davidson commented: “The results are down to the commitment, dedication and support from our dancers and families.”

The school now prepares for their first championship feis in Downpatrick later this month and the World Championships at Easter.

Classes continue weekly at the studio in Crossgar. For further information contact 07443 498510.
