A CONCERT is being held later this month to raise funds for a local retreat centre to help cover damage expenses arising from Storm Eowyn.
Over 20 trees fell in the grounds of Tobar Mhuire in Crossgar during the January storm.
While the monastery and centre remained open, the grounds were closed to the public for three months, eventually reopening at Easter.
Fr Aidan O’Kane CP, Vicar Bursar at Tobar Mhuire, said the damage bill was estimated at £10,000.
“These costs are not covered by our insurance as the damage incurred did not impact on buildings,” he explained.
“Proceeds from the concert will be used to defray the expenses arising from the storm, in particular works and services to attend to fallen trees and to make the grounds safe for the public.”
The event will be held at the St Patrick Centre in Downpatrick on Friday, June 27, at 8pm and will feature the Andrea Rice Band.
Tickets are £15 and are available at the Tobar Mhuire reception (Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm) and also at the St Patrick Centre.
Tobar Mhuire also welcomes donations from the public.
