Teconnaught Bridge Club host event in memory of three sisters

16 November 2022

TECONNAUGHT Bridge Club recently hosted a tournament in memory of three sisters who were loyal members of the club for many years.

Bridge is a very competitive and challenging game, but it is also an occasion for players to meet and socialise.

The McGurnaghan sisters, Betty, Nan and Sally, enjoyed the competitions, but, more importantly, they enjoyed meeting their friends and colleagues every Tuesday night in Teconnaught, playing bridge and having a cup of tea and a chat.

It was no surprise that the members of the club decided to hold a tournament in their memory. The McGurnaghan Tournament will be held each Halloween. The beautiful trophies awarded to the winners reflect the game, hands holding cards.

This year the deserving winners were (North South) Maura Leahy and Denis Cahill, and (East/West Bernard McCartan and Lindsay Crawford.

The trophies were presented to the winners on Tuesday by Harry McGurnaghan, a brother of the sisters, and Fiona McFarland, a niece.
