THE magical tale of The Wizard of Oz was staged over three nights in an exciting production by Ballynahinch’s Assumption Grammar School last week.
Students Anna Moore played Dorothy with Orlagh Murnin as the Scarecrow, with Olivia Magorrian portraying the Tin man with Lucia Orsi as the Lion.
The musical was directed by Ms Rosie Gibson — the school’s head of drama — who led the pupils by example, working tirelessly with long rehearsals after school and at weekends, executing her vision for The Wizard of Oz with tenacity and creativity.
Musical director and head of music, Mr Michael Harrison, also worked diligently to bring the production to life, overseeing the talented singers and orchestra and was responsible for bringing the songs of The Wizard of Oz to life.
School principal, Mr Peter Dobbin, congratulated all the cast on three nights’ of “incredible performances” in which every cast member gave their very best and reached the very high standard that has come to be expected from Assumption girls.
He added: “Every one of the cast displayed the outstanding musical and dramatic talent that we have at Assumption.
“This was a whole school community effort with staff and pupils involved in many different aspects of the production such as set design, stage management, lighting, makeup, publicity and costumes.”
