St Malachy’s pupils fundraising for Trócaire following lockdown

8 June 2022

AFTER the past couple of years of Covid and lockdowns, students and staff at St Malachy’s High School, Castlewellan, were glad to resume fundraising for Trócaire through their Lenten campaign.

Once again it was a huge success. Many different events were held, including a ‘Spinathon’ organised by the Year 14 Sports students, St Malachy’s Got Talent, form class collections, bun sales and various raffles, including the annual staff raffle held on Holy Thursday.

The school welcomed back former teacher Mrs Catherine McKeever be part of the presentation as she traditionally organised the Holy Thursday staff raffle over the years.

This year the school are delighted to have raised £4,050.92 for Trócaire, which they have supported for over 40 years.

A spokesperson for the school said: “The staff and students wish to thank everyone who organised each event and took part.

“Our sincere thanks also goes to the many local businesses who donated raffle prizes to support the campaign. Without the generosity from the whole St Malachy’s community, we wouldn’t have been able to have raised this fantastic amount.”
