Sister Act star in Torremolinos

CROSSGAR triathlete sisters Vicki and Sophie Truesdale competed for Ireland at the recent world championships in Torremolinos, Spain.

The pair were delighted as Vicki finished 41st and Sophie came 24th.

With an eager group of family and friends in support, the occasion was a truly amazing experience.

This was an opportunity for amateur triathletes to compete in an international representative sport.

Mingling with the elites of world triathlon and racing the same course, was a dream come true for these two sisters.

It has been a long season of training and competing for Vicki and Sophie, who are members of Down Triathlon Club, clocking up many hours and miles in swimming, cycling and running.

In fact, their dedication has seen them travel to competitions, such as the European Duathlon in Portugal and slightly closer to home in Cork, Wexford, Drogheda and Rostrevor.

It was the opportunity of this experience that meant the most, and running down that iconic blue carpet to the finish line with their names being announced for Ireland after the one-mile swim, 40km cycle and 10 km run will be a lifetime memory.

Vicki and Sophie never imagined they could reach this level when they started on their triathlon journey just three years ago and following support from the Irish Team, Down Club members, local businesses, family and friends, the sisters wish to extend their thanks.

They will not deny that there has been a lot of hard work and training involved, but getting to world level is achievable, and hey hope they can inspire other amateur triathletes to push to represent their country.

To represent Ireland at the world championships turned out to be more than just a dream for Vicki and Sophie.
