Simon Community eye new site in Downpatrick

11 April 2018

THE Simon Community in Downpatrick is hoping to move into new premises.

It is understood the charity’s longstanding Saul Street premises are no longer fit for purpose and that wasteland near their current hostel has been earmarked for a new build.

A planning application has been lodged for the construction of a 12-bedroom residential building with communal and staff facilities and associated site works.

Rolston Architects in Belfast have been named as the agent.

There are now two weeks for any comments on the proposal to be submitted by planners.

Established in 1971 in response to a homelessness crisis in Belfast, Simon Community has grown to become Northern Ireland’s leading homelessness charity and service provider.

Simon Community NI now helps over 3,000 people every year across 22 projects throughout Northern Ireland. It has 300 members of staff and 50 volunteers.
