Shimna staff record film

31 July 2024

STAFF at Shimna Integrated College in Newcastle have recorded a version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic poem ‘If’.

The film – which features a cross-section of teachers, classroom assistants and support staff reciting lines from the poem – has garnered over 10,000 views since it was posted on the college’s website almost two weeks ago.

Produced by Brian Milligan and Mark Willis, it was filmed last month and shows both the existing school and new build, set against the back of Shimna’s stunning location.

School principal, Steve Pagan, said it had been a positive year for the college and wanted to finish with something special.

“We do a lot of work with students around the theme of resilience, so Kipling’s poem was the ideal choice for this project,” he explained.

“Hopefully, everyone who views it will take something from its timeless message.”

Mr Pagan added: “It’s incredible to see how far the film has travelled. Using analytics, we can see it’s been viewed not just across Northern Ireland, but across Europe and as far away as the United States, South America, the Maldives and Australia.”
