Safety upgrade at Holy Family Primary School

Safety upgrade at Holy Family Primary School

23 April 2025

A SERIES of new safety measures have been introduced at the entrance to Holy Family Primary School in Teconnaught.

The work was carried out at the Drumnaconagher Road school by the Department for Infrastructure following lobbying by South Down MLA Cathy Mason.

She said new pedestrian guardrails, ped kerbs and so-called tactile paving will ensure pupils, parents and school staff are safe, especially at the busy drop-off and pick-up times.

“Another welcome development comes as safety signage will also be installed in the coming weeks,” Mrs Mason confirmed.

And Sinn Fein’s Early Years spokeswoman has praised the school community for its dedication to the safety project.

Mrs Mason said principal Mr Christopher Curran, his team and parents have worked very hard to make their school a safer and happier place for all.

“We will continue to work with them, as well as the Department for Infrastructure, to make the area as safe as possible,” she added.
