THE Downpatrick and Co Down Railway has received a £1,000 boost from Ryan’s Cookie Box.
Baker Ryan Bogues is well known for his baking exploits and helping others and following last November’s devastating flood which decimated the heritage railway and a large number of town centre businesses, he decided to do his bit to help.
Selling his mouthwatering tray bakes helped Ryan raise £,1021 for the railway’s flood relief appeal.
Last week, railway chairman Robert Gardiner, called with Ryan to thank him and his family for their efforts and presented with some of the charity’s new merchandise.
Robert presented Ryan with an 80 Class tea towel and O&K mug as thank you and revealed the new merchandise is expected to be on sale soon.
Railway officials were also delighted to discover that a fundraising concert in aid of the flood relief fund is being held in Down Cathedral on June 21.
Several local music groups, including Downshire Brass, St Patrick’s Choral Society, Down Community Youth Choir, Ballygowan Concert Flute Band and the Quoile Area WI Choir will be performing a cross-community concert.
Mr Gardiner said the support of the local community to help get the railway back on its feet in the aftermath of the November floods has just been incredible.
