Recognition for members on 40th anniversary of Lions Club

25 January 2023

BALLYNAHINCH Lions Club is celebrating 40 years serving the town and wider district.

And two of its members, John Murphy and Jimmy Anderson, have been there from its launch and were recently presented with badges and a certificate to mark their four decades of service.

And Francis Casement and Jimmy Green — who have each completed 15 years’ service — were also recognised for their contribution and presented with a badge and certificate.

Since its launch, Ballynahinch Lions Club has embarked upon many fundraising projects, raising tens of thousands of pounds for local and overseas charities and organisations.

Groups Ballynahinch Lions have supported include foodbanks, Marie Curie, Cancer Research and Air Ambulance Northern Ireland.

Many organisations also partnered with the Lions including Spa Golf Club, Ballynahinch Rugby Club, Mourne Motor Cycle Club, Millbrook Lodge Hotel and Montalto Estate, with the Lions grateful and appreciative for all the support.

More recently, Ballynahinch Lions will be best remembered for the annual  fun run through the Montalto estate and annual Christmas Food Collection.

Many of the original members have passed on and those who are left are getting older so it is the intention of the club to try to recruit new members to carry on this worthwhile work and in so doing have fun and companionship one with another.

Anyone over 18, male or female and any nationality who has an interest in doing good to make a difference in the community and uphold the Lions motto “we serve” will be made most welcome.

Anyone interested is asked to telephone 07876 062980 or leave a note with their details at Millbrook Lodge Hotel reception and someone will be in touch.

Although the Lions are best known for their efforts supporting local groups and causes, there is  also an international  division doing much work within third world countries and contributing  in situations of world catastrophes alongside the big ongoing project — saving the sight of thousands of children caused by river blindness in the third word.

Ballynahinch Lions Club said it recognises the contribution of its members and was delighted to recently recognise the service of John Murphy, Jimmy Anderson, Francis Casement and jimmy Green.
