AN award-winning local pipe band has been honoured by Newry, Mourne and Down Council.

Upper Crossgar Pipe Band, from Dromara, won by the drum corps title and finished fourth overall at the Grade 4A World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow Green last August.

To celebrate the achievement, the band were the special guests at a civic reception hosted by council chairperson Pete Byrne.

Cllr Byrne said it was a honour to welcome the band and to celebrate what he described as an “incredible achievement”.

He continued: “Securing the title of world champion drum corps is a testament to the hard work, precision and passion of every member.

“This success not only reflects the band’s dedication, but also showcases the rich musical heritage of our district. We are immensely proud of what you have accomplished on the world stage.”

He continued: “Upper Crossgare Pipe Band has long been recognised for its drive to achieve top results. I am extremely impressed that, in addition to their drum corps victory, Upper Crossgare Pipe Band placed fourth overall in the highly competitive Grade 4A category. This speaks volumes about the consistency and calibre of the entire band.

“I would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all band members who have dedicated themselves to perfecting their craft. Your hard work is at the heart of this success and on behalf of the council, I am incredibly proud of what you’ve accomplished.”

Cllr Byrne presented the band with a crystal bowl in recognition of their exceptional achievements and their contribution to the cultural life of the district.

He also took the opportunity to thank the many volunteers supporting the band behind the scenes, whose dedication ensures the smooth running of practices, events, and competitions.
