LAST year, Assumption Grammar School in Ballynahinch collected three Ulster camogie titles and reached two All-Ireland finals.
Central to those successes was the school’s long-serving coach Dr Terry Cunningham, who died suddenly on July 1.
After a special mass on Friday evening, the school arranged for Dr Cunningham’s wife, Julie, son Daniel and daughter Eve, to present Séamas McAleenan, the coordinator of schools’ camogie in Ulster, with a cup in his memory.
The Dr Cunningham Cup will be presented to the winners of the competition that Terry’s team won last year and for which the Junior Medallion Shield was presented – an award that will now be reallocated to a new competition.
The cup will be presented at the final next week.
