Police probe Newcastle bar shooting

27 November 2013

A SHOT was fired in a bar in Newcastle last weekend as scouts were leaving a nearby hall.

Police are investigating the incident which occurred at The Dugout, formerly known as the Arlington Bar, in the resort’s Main Street area around 9.30pm.

Two masked men, one armed with a shotgun, entered the premises through the rear door, with one of them firing a single shot. No one was injured in the incident.

Alliance councillor Patrick Clarke said he was “very concerned” about the Newcastle shooting, adding that he “must criticise those behind this act of violence.”

He continued: Those behind this incident clearly don’t care about whose lives they put at risk. This would have been a terrible ordeal for anyone in the vicinity and we must be thankful no-one was seriously hurt.

“I would appeal to anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible so these individuals can be removed from our streets.”

Police are investigating the incident and anyone who can assist them their enquiries is asked to contact 0845 6008000 or use the Crimestoppers number 0800 555111.
