Police appeal following fatal road crash

POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for information and witnesses following a recent single road traffic accident which sadly claimed the life of Jonathan Gribben from Cabra.

Mr Gribben (23), was a passenger in a Mitsubishi Shogun which crashed during the early hours on the Castlewellan Road near Kilcoo.

While taken to hospital, he later passed away. The driver was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Renewing an appeal for information into the circumstances of the fatal crash, where the vehicle left the road, police say they are keen to hear from anyone who can assist them with their enquiries. 

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the Rathfriland, Hilltown, Kilcoo or Castlewellan areas on Thursday, September 30 to review any dash-cam recordings they may have or footage of the silver Mitsubishi Shogun being driven in any of those areas.

In addition, police are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen or spoken to Mr Gribben at any time between 7pm and midnight on September 30.

Mr Gribben is the son of Eamon and Majella Gribben and brother of Declan. His funeral service was held at St Mary’s Church in Cabra on Tuesday of last week, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Last week, Clonduff GAC Facebook page said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” at the untimely death of its former youth player.
