LITTLE Oscar McCann’s family have marked his first birthday with a big cheque to TinyLife.
The premature baby charity supported the Downpatrick family when he was born on July 25, last year, weighing only two pounds and four ounces.
Oscar spent several months in ICU Neonatal Units in both the Royal and Ulster Hospitals before finally coming home on September 18.
To thank TinyLife, parents Conor McCann and Olivia Murphy organised a fundraising climb up Slieve Donard.
A group of 30 family and friends took part in the challenge on June 23, which raised £3,558.74 for the charity. A cheque was presented at the Down Leisure Centre last Saturday amidst Oscar’s first birthday celebrations.
Oscar’s grandmother Angela McKeever said TinyLife was a “wonderful” organisation, which still offered the family support.
“We always wanted to pay a little back to TinyLife who have been so good and so supportive,” she said. “It was a great sight to see the sea of yellow T-shirts going up Slieve Donard. Others who weren’t climbing came along to see us and offer their support.”
TinyLife said: “Huge thanks to baby Oscar’s family and friends who took on the challenge of climbing to the top of the mighty Slieve Donard — 30 enthusiastic participants took part and helped to raise the magnificent sum of £3,558.74.”
